I, Alishba Jabbar, daughter of Abdul Jabbar, am writing this today to reflect on my life. I come from Gahkuch, Ghizer, but I have been living in Rawalpindi for twelve years to pursue a better education. However, I spent several years of my life in Gilgit Baltistan. I was in grade 3 when my entire family moved to the city. In the city, I attended a school called Islamabad Lyceum, and later, for college, I chose to study at Punjab College.
As a student, I was quite introverted, which made me speak less in class. Because of this, I was often overlooked by my teachers. After completing my matriculation, the stress of it all caused me to become ill. I was treated at Aga Khan University Hospital and, after some time, was discharged as I slowly recovered.
Today, I don’t regret what happened in my life—whether it was the people who bullied me or the illness I faced. Instead, I’m thankful to them, as they made me stronger and pushed me to work harder. I put in the effort to achieve my goals, and now, I have been offered admission to some of Pakistan’s most reputable universities, including NUST, PIEAS, the Institute of Space Technology, and Bahria University, all in engineering fields.
I have decided to pursue Electrical Engineering at the Institute of Space Technology. Lastly, I want to encourage young people not to be afraid to stand up for themselves. We are all creations of the same God. If He doesn’t discriminate against us, then no one else has the right to look down on us.
