Sehrish Fatima’s Inspiring Story

Myself Sehrish Fatima, daugher of Muhammad Abbas, and I hail from the beautiful region of Gilgit. I was born on February 23, 2000, with complete visual impairment, a reality that brought significant challenges for both my family and me. However, when I was two years old, my parents took me to CMH Hospital in Rawalpindi, where a team of talented doctors and brigadiers performed a 13-hour eye operation. Thanks to their efforts, the surgery was a success, and I became partially visually impaired. This transformation was a moment of immense relief and hope for my family, and from that point on, I was determined to push forward.

With the unwavering support of my family, I never viewed my impairment as an obstacle. Instead, I saw it as something I could overcome through hard work and perseverance. My academic journey began at Hunza Model School Aliabad for my primary education. After my father’s posting to Gilgit, I continued at Eagle Public School & College Gilgit, where I was a position holder during my secondary education.

I initially pursued intermediate studies in medical sciences at The Learning Academy Danyore Gilgit, but I faced increasing challenges due to my eyesight. These difficulties led me to make the difficult decision to leave medical studies behind. However, I didn’t lose hope. I redirected my focus and chose to study sociology at Karakorum International University Gilgit, driven by a desire to address societal issues that people like me face every day.

Through persistence, determination, and the immense support of my teachers and friends, I graduated as a silver medalist. I am especially proud that I completed my education in regular schools, always competing with my peers, without attending any special education institutions.

I owe my success to my supportive teachers and friends, whose encouragement helped me through every challenge. I will forever be grateful to them for their motivation.

Life is filled with challenges, but how we respond to them shapes our destiny. With faith in God, hard work, and determination, no obstacle is too great. My journey is proof that if you believe in yourself and never give up, you will succeed.
