Introduction

Meet Rukhsana, a determined and resilient woman from Shishkat village in Gojal, Hunza Valley, Gilgit-Baltistan. Her journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and the unbreakable spirit of a woman who refused to let her dreams fade away. Rukhsana’s story is an inspiration to many, and we’re honored to share it with you.

The Early Years

Rukhsana completed her undergraduate degree at the University of the Punjab, Lahore, with a dream to study abroad. She received a conditional offer from the University of Edinburgh, but unfortunately, she couldn’t join due to financial constraints. Life took its course, and she joined the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Pakistan, becoming deeply involved in the NGO world.

Motherhood and Rediscovering a Lost Dream

After getting married and having children, Rukhsana’s dream of studying abroad seemed to fade away. However, when her children grew older, she decided to revisit her aspirations. Despite facing many challenges, she joined the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP), which became a great source of learning and exposure. Interacting with talented individuals who had studied in the United States reignited her dream of studying abroad.

The Journey to Success

Rukhsana dedicated her time to university applications, language tests, and scholarship searches. After two years of tireless effort, she secured admission offers from three top universities in the United Kingdom. She chose the University of Reading for her MSc in Environment, Climate Change, and Development, thanks to its interdisciplinary course structure and funding opportunities.

Achievements

Rukhsana’s hard work paid off when she received the Rotary International Global Grant and the British Council GREAT Scholarship for her postgraduate studies. She’s now pursuing her MSc at the University of Reading, UK.

Message to Women and Dreamers

Rukhsana’s story is a message of hope and resilience to women and dreamers everywhere. She says, “Do not let your gender, age, or other circumstances limit your endeavors to rise and shine again. Believe in yourself and follow your dreams with courage and determination. Remember, there is a beautiful world out there beyond both your comfort and discomfort zones!!!”

Conclusion

Rukhsana’s journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and determination. We’re proud to share her story, and we hope it inspires many to chase their dreams, no matter how impossible they may seem.
