Introduction:
Meet Sajida Jan, a neuroscientist from Sandi Yasin who has achieved an incredible milestone, and we’re excited to share their success story with you.
Challenge:
Belonging to a middle-class family in the far northern mountains of Pakistan, where resources and opportunities are almost scarce. Nothing is served to you, you have to compete and struggle your way through life, for almost everything.
Achievement:
After grade 10th joined United World College of Costa for the rest of high school, graduated from there with an International Baccalaureate Diploma in 2020. Through Davis Scholarship got admission at St. Lawrence University where I studied Neurosciences, finished my undergraduate in May, and now I am headed to pursue my PhD at the Ryan Institute of Neurosciences at University of Rhode Island in August. In 2019, I started a social organization called “Cycle Care Campaign” aiming to spread awareness regarding menstrual hygiene management in Gilgit.
Impact:
My goal as a neuroscientist is to focus my research on issues impacting people like me, people who have lived similar experiences as me, and the lives I can relate to. As an undergraduate researcher my focus was on the impact of early life adversities (that being difficult childhood) on the brain in terms of different cognitive properties. For my PhD I am aiming to focus on the impact of microplastics on brain activity, aging and drug development for different neurobiological disorders like Alzheimer’s Disease. Moreover, my social project Cycle Care Campaign aims to fight period poverty and spread awareness regarding menstrual hygiene management.
Quote:
“Life does not have to be a rat race” this is true only for the privileged ones, for us, belonging to an underprivileged area, it is a race, has always been a race, we have raced and competed for everything in life. With such circumstances, healthy competition becomes necessary.
Conclusion:
Sajida Jan’s success story is an inspiration to us all, showing that with dedication and perseverance, we can overcome any obstacle and achieve our goals. Join us in congratulating Sajida Jan on their remarkable achievement!
